VOLUNTEER OVERVIEW

VOLUNTEER OVERVIEW

Misfit Aid engages volunteers in short-term aid and development trips to assist communities impacted by poverty disaster and humanitarian crisis. Our volunteer teams spend 7 to 10 days in a local community, assisting in the areas of building and construction, basic business training or other community development initiatives based on the needs of that community and typically conclude with a short break to capitalise on the local surfing environment in the country's we visit, or for others to take some time for other leisure and relaxation.

We place volunteers into one of our project teams based on their skill level and experience and will work collaboratively with team members, field and in country partners and locals to deliver project activities. Trips are not for the faint hearted – our teams work hard and tirelessly to achieve the scope of goals we set for each trip. In saying this, the experience and impact that each team has as a Misfit for change is incredibly rewarding.

VOLUNTEER OBJECTIVES

VOLUNTEER OBJECTIVES

A Misifit is a change agent - a person who thinks and acts in a way that develops something different, something better. Apart from being a part of something that helps to address poverty and assist people to rebuild their lives, volunteering with Misfit Aid means you are entering into a
family. We support one another and work as a team - holding FOUR key objectives
as the backbone of who we are.

These FOUR objectives are:

1. Be the team - To have a group of individuals growing together through their experience. The team will discover the joy of giving, learning new and valuable skills and discovering an amazing side of themselves that otherwise may lay hidden and untapped.

2. Working to build a future - Our main contribution is to build houses and develop community infrastructure. We have skilled members within Misfit Aid that will teach volunteers and locals how to, for example, lay the foundations of a house and build something that will comfortably house a local family for years to come!

3. Empower a community-  Our team of volunteers empower the community by training locals with skills that will help them develop their community, delivering educational workshops and developing micro-finance opportunities so that people can rise and create a life for themselves and a healthy community.

4. Be a Positive influence -  As a team, travelling into areas that are culturally and physically different from our own, we respect at all times the beliefs and practices of the local people. We believe that the impact of being a positive influence is underestimated. By travelling to and working with communities impacted by the harsh conditions caused by poverty, disaster and humanitarian crisis, we are showing them that there are organisations and individuals in the world that care about their situation.
